Поэма открывается вступлением, основанным на короткой лирической теме томления, проходящей три раза в различной тембровой окраске. В конце краткого вступления, идущего в непрерывном тремоло скрипок, у солирующей трубы появляется основное ядро будущей темы воли — краткий мотив с пунктирным ритмом и решительным скачком. Основной раздел произведения начинается с темы мечтаний в экспрессивном звучании солирующего кларнета (Lento. Soavamente). Появляющийся в ней характерный ход на восходящую уменьшенную кварту предвосхищает основную интонацию темы самоутверждения. После ее развития вступает новая тема — полета (Allegro volande), интонируемая поначалу флейтой. Она вырастает в стремительном скерцоз- ном движении с легкими пиццикато струнных, еле слышным звоном тарелок, порханиями кратких мотивов у деревянных инструментов на фоне выдержанных звуков валторн. Следующий эпизод — Lento — посвящен теме возникающих творений в нежном звучании солирующей скрипки с прихотливым хроматизированным узором мелодии. Его сменяет Allegro поп troppo: аккорды валторн с сурдинами исполняют «ритмы тревожные», вслед за которыми у трубы звучит тема воли, переходящая в горделивую и экзальтированную, устремленную ввысь тему самоутверждения. В эпизоде Moderato avec delice снова появляется тема томления и, далее, тема творений, обе подвергаемые развитию. Нарастает напряжение, доходящее до первой значительной кульминации. Вторая волна (Allegro) отличается диалогом тем самоутверждения и полета, причем вторая теряет здесь свойственную ей первоначально легкость. В этот диалог вторгаются ритмы тревожные, уже не в аккордовом, а в одноголосном варианте. Allegro drammatico продолжает эту волну, но тема самоутверждения теперь противоборствует с ритмами тревожными. Усиливается динамическое напряжение, с победой ритмов тревожных достигается трагическая кульминация, на которой появляется новая тема — тема протеста в грозном звучании тромбонов (в аккомпанирующих голосах мелькают интонации темы полета). Далее ритмам тревожным противостоит тема воли, затем к ним присоединяется тема наслаждения, интонационно близкая теме возникающих творений. Она растет, привнося все более светлые краски, и, наконец, приводит к победно звучащей теме самоутверждения. Это — основная кульминация поэмы. Эпизод, повторяющий начало основного раздела поэмы (Lento) открывается темой мечтаний, дальнейшее изложение его несколько сжато и динамизирование. К трагедийным событиям возвращает краткая, но чрезвычайно активная кода. Звучат тема протеста, ритмы тревожные, тема воли, наконец, тема самоутверждения.В заключительном Maestoso она проходит торжествующе, контрапунктически объединяясь с преображенными интонациями темы воли и ритмов тревожных, которые также приобретают утверждающий оптимистический характер.

The poem opens with the introduction based on the short lyrical theme of tomming, passing three times in various timbre painting. The main section of the work begins with the theme of dreams in the expressive sound of the soling clarinet (Lento. Soavamente). The characteristic course appearing in it on the ascending reduced quartents anticipates the main intonation of the topic of self-affirmation. After its development, a new topic is entering (Allegro Volande), which is intonated at first flute. It grows in a rapidly cross movement with light pizzicato strings, barely audible ringing plates, floring short motives from wooden tools against the background of aged bellows. The next episode - Lento - is devoted to the topic of emerging creations in the gentle sound of the soling violin with a whimsical chromatized pattern of the melody. Allegro pop TROPPO is replaced: Horn chords with Surdini performed the "Rhythms of Anxiety", following which the topic will sound the topic of will, turning into a predominant and exaltation, striving. The Moderato Avec Delice episode reappears the topic of tomorrow and, further, the theme of creation, both subjected to development. The tension appropriate to the first significant climax. The second wave (Allegro) is distinguished by the approval and flight dialogue, and the second loses its originally characteristic of it. In this dialogue invade the rhythms of the alarming, no longer in chord, but in a one-haired version. Allegro Drammatico continues this wave, but the topic of self-assertion is now configured with rhythms alarming. Dynamic stress increases, the tragic culmination is achieved with the victory of the rhythms of the alarming, on which a new topic appears - the theme of protest in the formidable sound of trombones (in accompanying voices, intonation of the flight theme). Next, the rhythms of the alarming opposed the theme of the will, then they join them the theme of pleasure, intonationally close the theme of the emerging creations. It grows, bringing all the lighter paints, and finally leads to a victorious self-affirmation theme. This is the main climax of the poem. The episode repeating the beginning of the main section of the poem (Lento) opens the theme of dreams, the further presentation of it is somewhat compressed and the dynamization. The tragedy events return a brief, but extremely active code. The theme of protest, the rhythms are alarming, the topic of will, finally, the topic of self-affirmation.In the final Maestoso, it passes the solemn, counterpunctically uniting with the transfigured intonations of the theme of the will and rhythms of the alarm, which also acquire an apprusive optimistic character.
