Пока живы, о Лесбия, будем любить!
За ворчанье и толки суровых старух
Скопом все не дадим мы и аса*!
Пусть светила заходят и всходят…
Лишь погаснет свет дня, беспробудная ночь
Будет длиться для нас бесконечно.
Поцелуй меня тысячу раз, затем сто,
Снова тысячу и накинь сотню,
Целуй снова и сотни, и тысячи раз.
Поцелуев мы тьму** насчитаем
И со счета собьемся нарочно, не то
Злые люди завидовать будут, узнав
Велико сколь число поцелуев.
* Ас – мелкая римская монета.
** В Древней Руси слово «тьма» означало десять тысяч, но в данном случае будем считать, что это слово означает «великое множество», ибо Катулл не уточняет, каково точно это число поцелуев.
