СлонВ сумерки Ёжик любил посидеть у окна и помечтать.
Вот и сегодня, в этот тихий вечер, Ёжик надел валенки, накинул шубку и распахнул окно.
За окном был мартовский лес, но совсем не такой, каким бывает лес в марте.
Во-первых, нигде не было ни шкурки снега.
Во-вторых, лес не хмурился чёрными бровями ёлок, а отливал лёгкой светящейся сединой.
«Это потому что месяц, — подумал Ёжик и поглядел из окна на тоненький, в щербинах, месяц. — Жаль, птицы не поют».
И размечтался.
«Вот если бы запели птицы, — мечтал Ёжик, — и на небо выскользнула большая луна, и заплакал комар, ухнул филин, заплясала лягушка, и по всему лесу зашелестела молодая трава, и кто-то широким таким голосом спросил: “Ты о чём думаешь, Ёжик?”, я бы ответил: “О вас”».
— А кто я?
— Вы, наверное, Слон.
— Как ты догадался?
— А ты приплыл, да? Я вышел днём на крыльцо, вижу — облако, похожее на слона.
— Это был я, — сказал Слон.
— А ты... вы... надолго?
И тут Ёжик увидел настоящего Слона. Слон был серо-серебряный, будто в изморози, и такой лёгкий-лёгкий, как облако.
— До утра, — сказал Слон.
— Вы сели на холме?
Слон кивнул.
— И пошли ногами? Так заходите! — чуть не крикнул Ёжик. — Я напою вас чаем!
— Не вмещусь, — покачал Слон головой.
Тогда Ёжик выскочил из дома и поставил перед окном табуретку.
Теперь они сидели друг против друга, Слон и Ёжик. Слон — перед окном на табуретке, Ёжик — у окна в своём доме; чашки с блюдцами, морковка и всё остальное — на подоконнике.
Они пили чай из самовара, и Слон держал чашку, как барышня, самым кончиком хобота.
И тут появился Медвежонок.
— С кем это ты пьёшь чай? — с порога крикнул он.
— Со Слоном.
— Не вижу.
— Прищурься.
— Всё равно не вижу, — сказал Медвежонок.
— Он вас не видит, — сказал Ёжик Слону.
— Замечательная морковка! — сказал Слон и вежливо, почти незаметно съел морковку.
Медвежонок в упор посмотрел на Ёжика, выглянул в окно, снова посмотрел на Ёжика.
— Он там, на табуретке, — сказал Ёжик. — Скажите ему что-нибудь, Слон.
— Я очень большой, — сказал Слон. — Я сижу на табуретке. Но надо очень захотеть, чтобы меня увидеть.
— Ну? Видишь?
— Нет, — сказал Медвежонок. — Только луна и лес, и никакого Слона!
— Эх ты! — сказал Ёжик. — такого Слона не увидел.
— Это ничего, — сказал Слон. — У Медвежонка много забот. В следующий раз он меня обязательно увидит.
— Слышишь?
— Нет, — сказал Медвежонок. — Ничего не вижу и ничего не слышу! Завтра ни свет ни заря вставать и смолить лодку.
— Ты прилетай к нам, Слон! — попросил Ёжик. — Слышишь? Я так хочу, чтобы Медвежонок тебя увидел.

ElephantAt dusk, the Hedgehog loved to sit by the window and dream.
And today, on this quiet evening, the Hedgehog put on his boots, threw a fur coat and opened the window.
Outside the window was the March forest, but not at all what the forest happens in March.
Firstly, there was no snow skin anywhere.
Secondly, the forest did not frown with black eyebrows of the Christmas trees, but cast a light, luminous gray hair.
“This is because the month,” the Hedgehog thought and looked out of the window at a thin month in the troughs. “Too bad the birds don't sing.”
And dreamed.
“If only birds sang,” the Hedgehog dreamed, “and a big moon crawled out into the sky, and a mosquito cried, the owl ebbed, a frog danced, and young grass rustled across the forest, and someone asked with such a wide voice:“ What are you talking about Do you think, Hedgehog? ”, I would answer:“ About you. ”
- And who am I?
“You must be an elephant.”
- How did you guess?
- And you sailed, right? I went out onto the porch during the day, I see a cloud that looks like an elephant.
“It was me,” said the Elephant.
- And you ... you ... for a long time?
And then the Hedgehog saw a real Elephant. The elephant was gray-silver, as if in hoarfrost, and as light as light as a cloud.
“Until the morning,” said the Elephant.
“Have you sat on the hill?”
The elephant nodded.
“And they kicked?” So come on in! - almost shouted the Hedgehog. “I will give you tea!”
“I can't fit,” the Elephant shook his head.
Then the Hedgehog jumped out of the house and put a stool in front of the window.
Now they were sitting against each other, Elephant and Hedgehog. Elephant - in front of the window on a stool, Hedgehog - at the window in his house; cups and saucers, carrots and everything else - on the windowsill.
They drank tea from a samovar, and the Elephant held the cup, like a young lady, at the very tip of the trunk.
And then the Little Bear appeared.
- Who do you drink tea with? He shouted from the threshold.
- With the Elephant.
- I do not see.
- Squint.
“I don’t see it anyway,” said Little Bear.
“He does not see you,” said the Hedgehog to Elephant.
- Wonderful carrot! - said the Elephant and politely, almost imperceptibly ate carrots.
The teddy bear looked at Hedgehog point-blank, looked out the window, again looked at Hedgehog.
“He is there, on a stool,” said the Hedgehog. “Tell him something, Elephant.”
“I'm very big,” said the Elephant. - I'm sitting on a stool. But you have to really want to see me.
- Well? You see?
“No,” said Little Bear. “Only the moon and the forest, and no Elephant!”
- Oh you! - said the Hedgehog. - I did not see such an Elephant.
“It's nothing,” said the Elephant. “Little Bear has a lot of worries.” Next time he will definitely see me.
- Do you hear?
“No,” said Little Bear. - I don’t see anything and I don’t hear anything! Tomorrow neither light nor dawn get up and pitch the boat.
- You fly to us, Elephant! - asked the Hedgehog. - Do you hear? I really want the Teddy Bear to see you.
