Святитель Василий Великий – друг Григория Богослова и брат Григория Нисского, один из Великих Каппадокийцев. Он вошёл в историю по многим заслугам: за борьбу с ересями, за свой монашеский устав и многое другое. Именно благодаря нему Символ веры обрёл современную форму и более важно – благодаря ему Церковь нашла нужную терминологию для описания догмата Троицы. Перед Каппадокийцами, и особенно перед Василием, стояла задача адекватного описания единства и различия Лиц в Троице – этого главного догмата на котором держится вся мысль и жизнь Церкви: Василий описал его как различие усии и ипостаси, природы и личности.

St. Basil the Great is a friend of Gregory the Theologian and brother of Gregory of Nyssa, one of the Great Cappadocians. He went down in history on many merits: for fighting against heresies, for his monastic rule and much more. It was thanks to him that the Creed took on a modern form and more importantly - thanks to him the Church found the necessary terminology to describe the dogma of the Trinity. The Cappadocians, and especially Basil, faced the task of adequately describing the unity and difference of the Persons in the Trinity - this main dogma on which the whole thought and life of the Church is held: Vasily described it as a difference between the effort and the hypostasis, nature and personality.
