Although the appearance of Astrud Gilberto in the recording studio was made possible exclusively thanks to her husband Joao Gilberto, one of the most famous Brazilian artists of the 20th century, her unique vibrating, frankly naive tone not only provided her with a solid position in the charts, but also inspired many imitators in everything the world.Astrud Gilberto did not have any professional musical experience until, in 1963, she and Joao Gilberto attended the Stan Getz studio session in New York. By that time, Goetz had already recorded several albums inspired by Brazilian rhythms, and Verve label brought him together to work on the next album with Antonio Carlos Jobim and Joao Gilberto - cream of Brazilian music. To achieve a great crossover effect, the producer needed English-language Brazilian vocals. And after Joao Gilberto recorded his and Jobim's Portuguese song The Girl from Ipanema, her English version was recorded by Astrud Gilberto. Her first album of her own was released in May 1965.
