Работа над альбомом началась, как вспоминали участники группы, в трудный для неё период, когда пришлось разорвать отношения с прежним менеджментом, а участие в Black Sabbath стало превращаться в рутину («Гастролируем, пишем, записываемся — снова и снова». — О. Осборн). На состоянии музыкантов стал сказываться и образ жизни, что отчасти отразилось в тематике альбома («Кilling Yourself to Live»).
Тони Айомми вспоминал, что после Vol.4 у него наступил творческий кризис; он уже впал в отчаяние, когда возник «…этот рифф, который спас Black Sabbath» и после которого остальные песни стали появляться одна за другой.
Для работы над материалом группа арендовала замок в Уэльсе; музыканты утверждали, что он был «с привидением» (Билл Уорд утверждал, что видел призрак, выпрыгивающий из окна; после этого он, ложась спать, всегда брал кинжал с собой в постель). Группа расположила аппаратуру в подвалах, где, как говорил Айомми, сама атмосфера способствовала появлению новых идей. Для Оззи Осборна альбом стал творческой вершиной: он говорил, что ни до, ни после, голос его не звучал так хорошо, особенно в гармонии с самим собой.
Оформление
Для оформления обложки альбома была использована картина «Изнасилование Христа» («The Rape of Christ»), автор которой, Дрю Струзан, позже занимался оформлением кинопостеров, работал над дизайном первых «Звездных войн».

«Sabbath Bloody Sabbath». «National Acrobat». Sabbath Bloody Sabbath - The Fifth Studio Album of the English Havie Metal-Paper BLACK SABBATH, released on December 1, 1973 and marked the transition of a group to complicated arrangements, saturated synthesive sound (and even string - in the last track), more characteristic of progressive rock. Participation in the record records received Rick Wakeman, keyboard player Yes. The album rose to # 4 in the UK Albums Chart and up # 11 in Billboard 200
Work on the album began, as the group participants recalled, in a difficult period for her, when it had to break the relationship with the former management, and participation in Black Sabbath began to turn into a routine ("tours, write, write down - again and again." - O. O. O. O. ). In the state of musicians, the lifestyle began to affect the state of life, which was partly reflected in the subject of the album ("Cilling Yourself To Live").
Tony Ayomami recalled that after Vol.4 he had a creative crisis; He fell into despair, when it was "... This riff, who saved Black Sabbath" and after which the rest of the songs began to appear one after another.
To work on the material, the group rented a castle in Wales; The musicians argued that he was "with the ghost" (Bill Ward claimed that he saw a ghost jumping out of the window; after that he, he left to sleep, always took the dagger with him to bed). The group placed the equipment in the basements, where, as Iiomi said, the atmosphere itself contributed to the emergence of new ideas. For Ozzy Osborne, the album became a creative vertex: he said that neither before, nor after, his voice did not sound so good, especially in harmony with himself.

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Hard riff alternates with an acoustically jazz refrain, uses apocalyptic imagery, but the main theme of the song is the sense of the group in relation to the musical business in general and the former management in particular ("... People who were crushed you / you would like them to burn on fire ... ").
"National Acrobat". The medium-level proclue track, built on a complex, Vitious Riffe, continues the topic started at the "After Forever": This is a philosophical reflection on the meaning of life with religious subtext. Lyrics (as the Butler noted later) was completely refuted by the view widespread in the then musical press that Black Sabbath would like "high" topics, possessing a "narrow consciousness".
