БТА (Большой Телескоп Альт-Азимутальный) — крупнейший в Евразии оптический телескоп с диаметром главного монолитного зеркала 6 м. Установлен в Специальной астрофизической обсерватории на горе Семиродники у подножия горы Пастухова (2733 м) близ поселка Нижний Архыз Зеленчукского района Карачаево-Черкесской Республики, РФ, на высоте 2070 м над уровнем моря.
Являлся самым большим телескопом в мире с 1975 года, когда он превзошёл 5-метровый телескоп Хейла Паломарской обсерватории, и по 1993, когда заработал телескоп Кека с 10-метровым сегментированным зеркалом. Тем не менее, БТА оставался телескопом с крупнейшим в мире монолитным зеркалом вплоть до введения в строй в 1998 году телескопа VLT (диаметр 8,2 м). По сей день зеркало БТА крупнейшее в мире по массе, а купол БТА является крупнейшим астрономическим куполом в мире.

BTA (Large Telescope Alt-Azimuthalny) is the largest optical telescope in Eurasia with a main monolithic mirror 6 m in diameter.It is installed at the Special Astrophysical Observatory on Mount Semirodniki at the foot of Mount Pastukhov (2733 m) near the village of Nizhniy Arkhyz, Zelenchuksky District, Karachay-Cherkess Republic, Russian Federation , at an altitude of 2070 m above sea level.
It was the largest telescope in the world since 1975, when it surpassed the 5-meter Hale telescope of the Palomar Observatory, and until 1993, when the Keck telescope with a 10-meter segmented mirror became operational. Nevertheless, BTA remained the telescope with the world's largest monolithic mirror until the introduction of the VLT telescope (8.2 m diameter) in 1998. To this day, the BTA mirror is the largest in the world in terms of mass, and the BTA dome is the largest astronomical dome in the world.
