«Jackyl» дважды попадали в «Книгу рекордов Гиннеса», получив звание «The Hardest Working Band in Rock ‘N’ Roll»: один раз они отыграли 100 концертов за 50 дней, а второй раз – 21 концерт в течение 24 часов. "Jackyl" has twice entered the Guinness Book of Records, receiving the title of "The Hardest Working Band in Rock‘ N ’Roll": once they played 100 concerts in 50 days, and the second time - 21 concerts in 24 hours. Many consider this group to be hair metal, but Jackyl started out mixing hard rock, heavy metal and southern rock in equal proportions. The band was formed in 1991 on the initiative of vocalist Jess James Dupree, who was accompanied by guitarists Jimmy Stiff and Jeff Worley, bassist Tom Bettini and drummer Chris Worley. Taking the "AC / DC" style as a basis, the band began to conquer the neighborhoods of their native Atlanta, gathering more and more people to their concerts. One of Jackyl's signature tricks was Jess's virtuoso use of a chainsaw, with which he not only crumbled wooden chairs on stage, but also gave out original solos.One of the concerts was attended by the manager of "Geffen Records" John Kaludner, and soon with his help the band received a contract and went to Los Angeles to record their debut album. The circulation of the disc amounted to more than a million copies, which was largely due to such hits as "I Stand Alone", "Down On Me", "When Will It Rain".
Especially popular among listeners were the provocatively sexy little thing “She Love’s My Cock” and the number “The Lumberjack” with Dupree's trademark “benzosolo”. In support of the album, "Jackyl" toured extensively, performing in conjunction with "Aerosmith", "Kiss", "ZZ Top" and "Damn Yankees". In 1993, the band contributed to the compilation The Beavis & Butt-head Experience, and the following year recorded their second album, Push Comes To Shove. Unfortunately, the label paid little attention to the promotion of the record, and the disc received only gold status. In the same 1994, "Jackyl" appeared at the Woodstock Festival, and their song "Headed For Destruction" was included in a double live album released as a result of this event. In 1996, the band prepared their own live, "Night Of The Living Dead", published by the European label "Mayhem Records".
Not long before that John Kaludner had left to work for Epic Records, followed by Jackyl. In 1997, the band's third studio album, Cut The Crap, was released. Although such personalities as producer Mike Fraser (AC / DC, Metallica) and engineer Kevin Shirley (Silverchair, Aerosmith) were involved in the creation of the album, the work failed to attract the attention of the general public.
Only one track, "Locked and Loaded", was frequently played on the radio, but this was due to the fact that Brian Johnson of AC / DC performed the guest vocals on it. Epic soon had to leave, and the musicians relocated under the wing of a small company, Shimmering Tone Records. In 1998, the band released a selection of B-sides "Stayin 'Alive", but it would have remained unnoticed if Geffen Records had not thrown a compilation of the best things, "Choice Cuts", on the market, thereby making indirect promotion. As a result of the rising wave of personnel changes, Bettini and Stiff were fired, and Roman Glick became the new bass player of "Jackyl".
Having dealt with their internal problems, the band returned with a new studio work, "Relentless", released by Humidity Records. On this album, Brian Johnson once again featured on "Kill the Sunshine". In 2003, Geffen prepared another best-compilation album, 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Jackyl, and the following year, the live CD and DVD with the help of the Sanctuary Records label, Live at the Full Throttle Saloon ".
