"Penny Lane"/"Strawberiv Fields Forever" была лучшей пластинкой, которую мы
записали", - вспоминал продюсер "Битлз" Джордж Мартин. В ностальгической
"Penny Lane" Маккартни отсутствовало психологическое напряжение "Strawberry
Fields" Леннона, но она была не менее технически совершенной и лирической.
Никакой другой сингл не демонстрирует так ярко взаимодополняющие таланты Леннона
и Маккартни. Если музыка Джона как бы замкнута в его сознании, то ощущение от
музыки Пола совершенно иное: он гуляет по улицам Ливерпуля с улыбкой на лице.
Музыка подчеркивает это чувство свободы, и соло Дэвида Мэйсона на трубе
усиливает впечатление. Проигрыш Мэйсона был исключен во время последнего
микширования песни, но первоначальная версия уже была отправлена в США для
использования в сигнальных копиях сингла.

Recorded on December 29, 30, 1966, on January 4, 6, 9, 10, 12, 17, 1967.
"Penny Lane" / "Strawberiv Fields Forever" was the best record that we
recorded, "recalled Beatles producer George Martin. In a nostalgic
"Penny Lane" McCartney lacked psychological stress "Strawberry
Fields "Lennon, but she was no less technically perfect and lyrical.
No other single shows Lennon's brightly complementary talents
and McCartney. If John’s music is as if locked in his mind, then the feeling of
Paul’s music is completely different: he walks the streets of Liverpool with a smile on his face.
Music emphasizes this feeling of freedom, and David Mason’s solo on trumpet
enhances the impression. Mason's loss was ruled out during the last
mixing songs, but the original version has already been shipped to the US for
use in signal copies of a single.
