Было это или не было, ведает лишь Бог один:
странствовал по землям северным неизвестный паладин...
Cлавен рыцарь. Силой, доблестью, он хранил свою страну,
только имя – имя гордое – не доверил никому...
Дал обет Пречистой Деве? Иль себя за что казнил?
Но, как водится, принцессу этот витязь полюбил.
Верен рыцарь даме сердца и послушен королю,
да не смел сказать принцессе он: "Я люблю Тебя! Люблю!"
Птица вещая садится на плечо, сложив крыла:
"Я тебе, о, смелый рыцарь, весть от милой принесла,
Там у замка кружат вороны, слышен псов голодный вой ...
Ты вернись в родную сторону, ты прими с врагами бой!"
Вот, не мешкая, он мчится, и спустя четыре дня
выезжает рыцарь к замку, хоть совсем загнал коня.
Но не видит он ни ворога, ни следа дружины той:
"Уж не вздумал подшутить ли хитрый Дьявол надо мной?"
И пред ним явилась дева в одеяньях голубых:
"Ты живой, мой рыцарь смелый! Короля остерегись!
Нынче правят Ложь, Измена. Клеветой отравлен мир.
Ждут стрелки тебя на стенах. Уезжай! Скорей! Беги!"
"Не бывать семь раз убитым, чему быть – не миновать!
Коль у ног желанной девы бездыханным мне лежать,
лучше нет удела..." – молвил, и приник к её перстам.
Пусть рука убийцы дрогнет, но безжалостна стрела.
Алый цвет к одеждам белым оку Господа милей.
"Я люблю..." – шептала дева. Да Судьба всего сильней!
Так ушел с улыбкой в небо тот последний паладин...
Было это или не было, знает только Бог один...

There, near the castle, crows are circling, a hungry howl of dogs is heard ...

Here, without hesitation, he rushes, and after four days
the knight leaves for the castle, although he has completely driven the horse.
But he does not see either a gate or a trace of that squad:
"Didn't the cunning Devil decide to play a trick on me?"
And before him appeared a virgin in blue robes:
"You are alive, my brave knight! Beware of the king!
Today Lie, Treason rules. The world has been poisoned with slander.
Arrows are waiting for you on the walls. Leave! Hurry! Run! "
"Not to be killed seven times, what to be - not to escape!
If at the feet of the desired maiden I lie lifeless,
better no inheritance ... "- said, and clung to her fingers.
Let the killer's hand tremble, but the arrow is merciless.
The scarlet color to the white clothes is sweeter than the Lord
"I love ..." - the maiden whispered. Yes Destiny is the strongest!
So that last paladin left with a smile in the sky ...
