ВЛАДЫКИ БУДДЫ
Начало пути
Владыка Будда действительно покинул родной город. Действительно созерцал под деревом мудрости. Действительно учил в Бенаресе. Действительно окончил Учительство Свое в Кушинагаре, но века прибавили много басен.
Владыка покинул родной город на коне в сопровождении посланного слуги. Дорога лежала на северо-запад вдоль долины реки. Две недели продолжался ускоренный путь. Когда миновали горные переходы, кончился конный путь, дальше вела охотничья тропа.
Здесь явленный слуга оставил Его, но на прощание сказал; "Брат Царевич, иди и, когда найдешь хижину охотника, передай ему этот кусок дерева". И дал Ему кусок де-рева с тремя знаками.
Владыка шел семь дней по тропе. На восьмой день дошел до хижины. Дверь была открыта, и высокий старик, одетый в старую грязную поддевку, стругал дерево.
Владыка обратился с приветствиями, согласно обычаю Индии. Но охотник рассмеялся и указал на дерево. Владыка вспомнил о куске дерева и передал ему. Старик внимательно осмотрел знаки и добродушно указал на стол в хижине. Владыка понял приглашение и отведал дичь и мед. Затем старик знаками указал Владыке отдохнуть.
Когда Владыка Будда проснулся, солнце только что озарило снега. Охотника не было в хижине, но со двора раздавался стук его топора. Но вот его фигура показалась в дверях и подала Владыке питье из меда. Затем старик взял суму и копье и указал на солнце. Владыка понял, что пора в путь, и, взяв посох, вышел из хижины. Старик трижды поклонился Ему и указал следовать.
Подойдя к кустарнику, он раздвинул ветви, и обнаружилась узкая тропа. Он сделал знак Владыке следовать за ним и быстро пошел вперед, указывая на солнце. Так шли они до полудня, лес начал редеть, и стал доноситься шум реки, они вышли на берег.
Старик натянул лук и послал стрелу. Молча ждали они. Владыка снял с себя оставшиеся украшения и подал старику. Но тот указал бросить в реку.
Вот появился на другом берегу высокий человек, выдвинул челн и направился к ним. Кафтан его был оторочен мехом и лицо очень смуглое, широкое. Достигнув берега, незнакомец поклонился Владыке и пригласил его в челн.
Владыка хотел проститься с охотником, но тот незаметно исчез. Незнакомец также хранил молчание. Достигнув берега, они сели на коней и стали подыматься в гору.
Ночью достигли они предела снегов и на рассвете спустились в Обитель.
