Окончательные 2 строки гимна "Dies irae" (который заканчивается всё же Amen). В традиционной литургии не использовались; как материал для отдельной части реквиема (как мотет, т.е. вокальный жанр) встречается у композиторов начиная с XIX века.
Автором текста "Dies irae" является, вероятно, итальянский монах Фома из Челано (XIII в.).
В основе гимна лежит библейское пророчество о судном дне, Библия, Книга пр. Софония, 1.15: Dies irae...
Интересно, что Pie прежде всего с лат.
1) набожно, благочестиво, благоговейно;
2) по чистой совести, как требует долг;
3) чистосердечно, искренно [decipiens - обманчивый], глубоко;
4) свято.
Хотя для первого значения есть слово dievbijīgs - богомольный, набожный, богобоязненный.
От pie происходит пиетет и имя Пап Римский Пий. impie - нечистиво.
